Prenatal Pilates

Pilates helps support the back while the abs stretch to make room for the baby. Pilates can help give you the strength you need for giving birth. When a woman is pregnant the relaxin hormone can make muscles tight to compensate for loose joints. Keeping your abs and pelvic floor strong while pregnant can also help prevent long lasting effects of the pregnancy years later.  On a personal note I did Pilates for the 9 months I was pregnant with my daughter. I truly feel Pilates helped me stay strong and in balance through my pregnancy.

For these sessions, I kindly ask that you bring a doctor note clearing you.

Postpartum Pilates

Your body created a new life which took 9 months. That is amazing! It is important to give yourself 6-12 months to get your body back.  Even women who gave birth via c-section can greatly benefit from these exercises. The goal of a Postpartum workout is to bring your body back into its pre-pregnancy state in a safe and reasonable amount of time.

After birth women can experience a weak pelvic floor and an abdominal split called a Diastasis which can cause back pain. During pregnancy a woman’s ab stretch to make room for the baby. This does not just simply heal on its own and can cause back pain. Sit-ups and traditional Pilates exercises are not safe when recovering from birth. With Postpartum Pilates a woman can recover from birth in a safe way and then it is fine to go back to a normal exercise routine. I have helped many women heal from a Recti Diastasis with very specific postpartum exercises that you can learn and also do at home.

6 weeks after giving birth is usually a safe time to start these sessions.
