Pilates Rehab
Pilates is a safe way to get strong and address the imbalances that may cause chronic pain. Pilates can give you a stronger core to support you back, lengthen tight short muscles and help realign the spine. I have worked with clients who have disk herniation, rotator cuff injury, spinal stenosis, forward head syndrome, rounded shoulders, osteoporosis, scoliosis and recti-diastasis.
The Reformer, can support your joints and weight while working in the correct alignment. Depending on the goal, a client will come in once a week and then be given Pilates exercises to do at home in-between sessions.
My education at Kane School, now known as Kinected, prepared me to work within Physical Therapy guidelines and modify Pilates exercises for people with limited mobility. I also have additional training with Rebekah Rostein of Buff Bones to use Pilates exercises for clients with osteoporosis and osteopenia. Through her incredible workshops I learned the protocol needed to safely teach this population Pilates with the goal for stronger bones.
On a personal note, I became introduced to Pilates after a car accident. I had three bulging disks, a hip hike and neck pain. At my lowest moment, I had to walk with a cane. Private Pilates sessions helped me to heal my back and regain my strength while addressing poor postural habits that had contributed to my chronic pain. In working within my own limitations, I understand deeply how to modify and design a Pilates program that meets you’re unique needs.
Please note, a Pilates Rehab session can often be the next step after working with a Physical Therapist but should never replace a doctor’s advice or your PT’s protocol.
Insurance is not accepted for Rehab Pilates Sessions.
